In July 2013, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America accepted my proposal for the iconography of St. Jacob’s Chapel inside the Ionian Village. With the valuable help of Fr. John Magoulias of Modesto, CA, and Fr. Evagoras Constantinides, the Director of Ionian Village, the bond between us and the Ionian Village Camp became reality.

We visited the Camp and after all the necessary arrangements, the 1st Phase of the Chapel’s Iconography project has started. As the project was under way, besides installing the work into the Chapel’s interior, we also arranged some classes, available to all campers, regarding byzantine iconography drawing. The lessons also included extensive discussion about Byzantine Iconography, the semantics that it holds throughout the years and in what form is traditionally depicted in orthodox churches. We understood that having the campers watching iconography happen in real time, was a unique opportunity and fully appreciated the Ionian Village’s mission to bring campers into personal contact with Orthodox faith.
